Miss Niigata is by the artist Takizawa Kōryūsai II. Her personal name is Niigata Yukiko and her kimono crest is the kikyo (Chinese bellflower).
Although official placement lists kept by the World Committee of Friendship Among Children from 1929 and 1930 indicate that Miss Niigata was sent to the Denver Public Library, we know from rare archival film footage that she was actually sent to Salt Lake City, Utah. There she was placed in the Capitol Building in May of 1929 under the name “Miss Fukui,” while the doll actually sent to Denver is the original Miss Yokohama.
Miss Niigata is, unfortunately, currently among the missing dolls.
