Miss Hyōgo is by the artist Takizawa Kōryūsai II. Her kimono crest is the mitsu yose matsu (encircled triple pine).
She was originally placed in the St Joseph Children’s Museum, now part of the St Joseph Museum, in St Joseph, Missouri.
Kansas City, Missouri, just to the south of St. Joseph, also was gifted a doll, Miss Shizuoka, and the placement of Miss Hyōgo in St. Joseph, so close to Kansas instead of St. Louis on the eastern side of the state, is largely believed to have been through the strong influence of Miss Orrel Andrews, the founder of the St. Joseph Children’s Museum, and reflects the strong focus on placing these dolls within Children’s Museums whenever possible.
While Miss Hyōgo contains nearly a complete set of lacquer furnishings, they bear the generic botan peony crest, as opposed to one specifically coded to Miss Hyōgo’s pine crest found on her kimono. She is also missing her original ship ticket and passport.
Through comparisons with archival images, she has been determined to be the original Miss Mie.
